Paul Hyl, Attorney at Law

Overview

I am an attorney practicing exclusively in the fields of Trusts and Estates, Elder Law, Special Needs Planning and small business representation. I advise clients regarding general and sophisticated estate planning matters, charitable giving, estate and gift taxation issues, retirement and business succession planning and special needs planning. I practice before the Surrogate’s Courts of Nassau & Suffolk Counties, the five boroughs of the City of New York and Westchester County, in both uncontested and contested Probate, Administration and Accounting matters. I prepare federal and New York State gift tax returns, estate tax returns and fiduciary income tax returns, as well as fiduciary accountings. On the elder law side of things I assist clients in planning for their potential incapacity, draft Medicaid Trusts and advance directives, and apply for Medicaid to cover the cost of their long term care needs. I draft business operating agreements, bylaws and other corporate and entity documentation.

Prior to starting my own firm I was a partner at one of Long Island's premier elder law firms and before that as a senior associate attorney at a boutique Garden City trusts and estates firm, as well as having served as counsel to the Nassau County Public Administrator.

I am a member of the New York State Bar Association and its Elder Law and Trusts and Estates Sections. Locally, I am a member of the Estate Planning Council of Nassau County and the Nassau County Bar Association. I also am a licensed New York State Real Estate Broker and New York State Notary Public.

I have presented to other attorneys at countless Continuing Legal Education seminars hosted by the New York State and local bar associations on all aspects of elder law and estate planning, taxation and administration.
